Tour of historic Portsmouth plus pub lunch @ The Square Tower - starting point

The Square Tower will be the starting point for this tour kindly led by Andrew Starr.

We then move towards Nelson’s Memorial where we learn about Trafalgar, HMS Victory and Nelson. Then onto the Royal Garrison Church and hopefully explore inside. Then off towards Portsmouth Cathedral with an explanation of the High Street and its history and then onto the Broad Street Plaza with its many memorials and much history. Onto the ramparts and towards the oldest part of them the Round Tower. Then through the last of the narrow windy streets from the 17th Century, past Quebec House to the Portsmouth Point and the pub. After then onto the Camber Dock and the original landing point.

Lunch will be at The Still and West pub.

We could then extend off towards Gunwharf Quays, the Spinnaker Tower and the Dockyard, should people want a fuller package… or up the High Street to the City Museum and get a bit more detail about the writers with a Portsmouth connection, including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes.
